Kindergarten Curriculum Overview
Bible
God's Wonders, Christian Schools International
The curriculum for Kindergarten through second grade uses the Bible story told by the teacher as the central element. Multisensory follow-up activities encourage students to remember and retell the stories.
Students are introduced to the remarkable works of God on behalf of His people and stories of Jesus' life, death, and ascension.
Bible Memory
Kindergarten students memorize a verse for each letter of the alphabet. They also memorize Psalm 23 and 100, Luke 2:8-14, Matthew 28:5-6 and the Lord's Prayer.
Math
Everyday Mathematics
We use a hands-on approach to Sort and Classify, Count, Skip Counting, Geometry (shapes), Number Patterns, Money, Time, Measuring Data, Graphing, Addition, Subtraction and Estimation.
Reading
Foundations, Wilson Reading Basics
Journal Writing
Students write at their own individual levels using pictures, child inventive spelling and conventional spelling.
Handwriting
Fundations, Wilson Language Basics
The goal of this program is to identify and manipulate sounds of language, learn how the alphabet works and learn the correct formation of the letters.
Social Studies
Topics covered include: myself, my family, my community, my world, our solar system and special holidays.
Science
The curriculum was developed by the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center.
This is a guided, inquiry instruction that takes advantage of the students' natural curiosity and thinking ability to focus their learning.
The four major units of study are: The Senses, Changes, My Earth and Plants, and Is It Living?
Library
The students have library once a week for 30 minutes. They are introduced to library skills such as where to look for books, signing books out and the joy of books.
Art
Activities in the classroom focus on a variety of medium (crayons, markers, colored pencils, painting using sponges, brushes, hands, fingers, etc.)
Physical Education
Perceptual Motor Development-once a week
Music
Students are introduced to basic concepts of music (long/short, loud/soft, fast/slow, high/low) through the use of singing and listening. Once a week.
